Industriascapes
“Industriascapes” explores the juxtaposition between human nature and capitalism based on my personal experiences balancing corporate career with creative practice, motherhood with professional work, and urban “elitism” with rural sensibilities. “Industriascapes” is a painting series of impressionistic, experimental landscapes that highlight the balance between the modern industrialized and natural worlds. Canvas panels in acrylic and oil depict classic landscape tropes overlaid with adhesive vinyl to depict physical, man-made objects meant for connection. The contrasting materials reflect the conflict in both art and motherhood to uphold tradition while embracing modernity. The purple, pink and blue palette provides femininity to this series, connecting to women’s roles today balancing the natural state of motherhood and participating in modern society. Landscapes viewed from dynamic and unexpected perspectives allows the viewer to consider themselves in the context. The series will expand into more large-scale, mixed media works addressing women’s relationship to caregiving and professional career.
